I’ve seen a lot of kennels over the years from tying out hounds on a chain to climate controlled and a little of everything in between. Our kennel is a metal sided barn with a concrete floor. There are currently six runs on the left side of the barn. The outside runs are six feet wide and twelve feet long. They are completely covered. Each kennel is cleaned by washing the runs down into a concrete trough that empties into a septic tank. The hounds have access to their food, water, and doghouse through their own doggie door and once inside they each have a six feet by four feet space. We use electric heat in the winter and large box fans in the summer months to keep the hounds comfortable. Our hounds are treated to a steady diet of Purina Pro Plan and/or Purina One, receive Interceptor parasite preventative, and are given Zodiac flea & tick medicine monthly. In addition to this, any expecting mother takes a multi-vitamin along with a fish oil supplement. Daily exercise is a must for these athletes and comes in the form of a raccoon hunt, leisurely walk, or a chance to socialize with their neighbor during what I call play-time. The hounds receive baths as needed, some more than others due to external factors such as run-ins with the local skunks. 2007 Kennels Update: We are excited to announce the addition of a continuously monitored smoke/fire and security system for the kennels. This was high on our priority list of upgrades for our kennels. We feel better knowing that even when we are not home, our hounds are safe and secure.
